Mt Barney Open Gardens Weekend

Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th November from 9am thru 4pm

Do you love wandering around country gardens and being inspired by what you see?

Don’t miss the first opening of the inaugural Mt Barney Open Gardens Weekend* in November. Various properties in the Mt Barney valley will open their gates to the public on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th November from 9am thru 4pm including:

Wyuna Country Garden

Our garden at Wyuna is set on a ridge top, surrounded by farmland, with a backdrop of Mt. Barney and Mt. Maroon. An avenue of long established hoop pines is complimented by a formal pond and terrace, garden beds of flowering shrubs which attract an ever increasing number of birds, a small orchard, our organic vegie garden and chook run.

In the paddock behind our 90 year old Queenslander you will find an intriguing Celtic stone circle among a recently planted forest of local scrub trees.

Our newly renovated rustic shed houses Ridgeline Studio that showcases Jennifer’s artwork and Barry’s blacksmithing forge, both of which will be operating on the day. The bush kitchen will also be pumping out billy tea and damper.

November is a beautiful time of the year to experience the Mt. Barney area – please come and enjoy!

Mt Barney Lodge Advanced Eco Retreat

You can visit the mature tree-scape and creek revegetation project at Mt Barney Lodge, and wander through the herb garden to see culinary and medicinal herbs, as well as seeing what is in season in the permaculture garden. See how we improve the soil structure with our commercial compost system, worm farm, chooks and guinea pigs. This year we have started “growing” protein for the chooks with our Black Soldier Fly larvae farm – check out how simple this homemade system is. Tracey has been working hard on the cottage garden plants at the Lodge this year in preparation for our onsite events that include 25th Anniversary, A World Apart and private weddings.

A picnic lunch may be pre-booked and can be enjoyed either in the gardens or down by the creek. Call +61 7 5544 3233 for lunch bookings.

Desley and Pietro’s Italian Garden

If you’re interested in sculptures, the Agnoletto’s garden is a must. Possibly one of the largest private sculpture gardens in Australia, it proudly displays six large sculptures by German sculptor Thomas Reiffercheid, three by Queensland sculptor Luke Zwolsman and two by Queenslander Antone Bruinsma.

Pietro has been working on his garden for 15 years and it is his greatest pride and joy. See the bamboo displays, the pony-tail corner, all his hand-made rock walls and his most recent addition – the two vertical gardens. The full-size bocce court is always a favourite and visitors are welcome to have a game.

Pizzas, minestrone and gelato will be available to purchase.

Barney Creek Vineyard Cottages

The gardens at Barney Creek Vineyard Cottages are planted with a variety of flowers, shrubs, trees and decorated with old farming equipment.

Birdlife is plentiful throughout the garden with honeyeaters, robins, wrens and lorikeets to name a few. Take a seat under the crepe myrtle trees and whilst listening to the tranquil sounds of water running through the babbling brook try your hand at bird spotting.

Stroll down to the vineyard to view the 5 varieties of grapes growing on the property and to enjoy the magnificent views of Mt Maroon.

Wine tasting will be available on both days.
